No visit to Istanbul is complete without a visit to the Hagia Sophia. Built as a church around mid 5th century, it was converted to a mosque after the Ottomans took over Istanbul. Since Turkey became a republic, it is now a museum, and the visitors are able to experience more than millennium worth of art and architecture.
